“冷却塔” 是指可将水冷却的一种装置。水在其与流过的空气进行热交换、质交换，致使水温下降。
开式冷却塔是利用水和空气的接触，通过蒸发作用来散去工业上或制冷空调中产生的废热的一种设备。基本原理是：干燥（低焓值）的空气经过风机的抽动后，自进风网处进入冷却塔内；饱和蒸汽分压力大的高温水分子向压力低的空气流动，湿热（高焓值）的水自播水系统洒入塔内。当水滴和空气接触时，一方面由于空气与水接触的直接传热，另一方面由于水蒸汽表面和空气之间存在压力差，在压力的作用下产生蒸发现象，即通过与不饱和干空气热传递带走水的显热，部分水蒸发将水中的潜热带走，从而达到给冷却水降温的目地。
闭式冷却塔是利用水和盘管接触，通过管壁热传递换热带走盘管内冷却工质的热量达到冷却目地。闭式冷却塔中的循环水只在冷却塔内部循环与空气换热冷却再与盘管接触带走盘管内工质热量，补水管适当补水，相比于开式冷却塔，闭式冷却塔的特征就是增加盘管，需要冷却的液体工质在钢质盘管内流动不与水直接接触，通过管壁换热。
圆形逆流式玻璃钢冷却塔适合中小型水量、多水源分散布置的循环冷却水系统使用，布置灵活方便。
1、标准设计工况：干球温度31.5℃，湿球温度28℃，大气压力99400Pa，进水温度42℃，出水温度32℃；
2、层叠式高效圆塔填料的选用，使该类冷却塔达到结构紧凑，占地面积小、布置灵活方便的设计目的；
3、采用机翼型空腹结构大直径、大面积、低转速、低动压玻璃钢风机叶片，使用该类冷却塔具有节能、低噪的特点；
4、超低噪声冷却塔于进出风口及淋雨区设置高效降噪装置，使同级别冷却塔降噪达5dB(A)；
5、大量高强FRP结构件在该类冷却塔上的应用使其具有防腐性能良，使用寿命长的优点；
6、小型冷却塔采用旋转式布水系统，结构简单、布水均匀，提高冷却塔热力性能，大型冷却塔采用固定布水系统，提高塔体的稳定性能；
7、旋转式布水系统设置挡水板装置，固定式布水系统设置收水器装置，使冷却塔的飘水损失降至0.01%以内；
8、圆塔结构本身赋予其的抗风压性能，适用于沿海台风地区使用，该类冷却塔设计抗风能力达0.75KN/m2；
9、体积小、重量轻、结构简单，安装维护简捷方便；
一般情况下，进入塔内的空气、是干燥低湿球温度的空气，水和空气之间存在着水分子的浓度差和动能压力差，当风机运行时，在塔内静压的作用下，水分子不断地向空气中蒸发，成为水蒸气分子，剩余的水分子的平均动能便会降低，从而使循环水的温度下降。从以上分析可以看出，蒸发降温与空气的温度（通常说的干球温度）低于或高于水温无关，只要水分子能不断地向空气中蒸发，水温就会降低。但是，水向空气中的蒸发不会无休止地进行下去。当与水接触的空气不饱和时，水分子不断地向空气中蒸发，但当水气接触面上的空气达到饱和时，水分子就蒸发不出去，而是处于一种动平衡状态,低温恒温槽。蒸发出去的水分子数量等于从空气中返回到水中的水分子的数量，水温保持不变。由此可以看出，与水接触的空气越干燥,低温恒温槽，蒸发就越容易进行，水温就容易降低。
